I originally played this (along with Summer Games II and World Games) on PC when it was current and somewhat recently picked it up for NES. Unfortunately it's cart only because I really want to know what's in the manual.
The biggest issue with this port is that they removed 3 of the 7 events in the original PC version -- most likely due to space limitations. And of the 4 that they kept, IIRC, Hot Dog Aerials wasn't even an Olympic event... yet. Not only that, 2 of the 4 events depicted on the cartridge and front of the box are events they cut out for this release (Ski Jump and Biathlon) since they just used the same image as the PC release.
I didn't get perfect scores in Hot Dog or Figure Skating, but got reasonably high enough scores in them, plus a relatively good time in Bobsled as well as beating the Computer in speed skating. So I consider that to be beating the game. I have to laugh at the few reviews I read that couldn't figure out how to get the figure skater to land when it's probably the easiest thing to do in the game. Without a manual, it took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. Same with saying Speed Skating is all about "button mashing," and then claiming it's nearly impossible to beat the Computer.
For what's included, it's a decent game since it pretty much plays the same as what I remember of the PC release. It's really what's missing (which includes the REALLY good EPYX "National Anthem" as well as probably more than half of the countries that you could play as, also most likely due to space limitations since it plays the beginning of each country's national anthem) that severely detracts.
