I got my city up to almost 100k, around the year 2020, before quitting.

There is a great game here, but the lag and overall slowness of this port make it almost unplayable. I tried with both a PS mouse and standard controller. I'd say the controller is actually a better option since not having a keyboard for the keyboard shortcuts really limits you with only a mouse. You do get the advantage of being able to rotate the map with the shoulder buttons as well as having a Main Menu hotkey with the standard controller. Also, many times, if I just let the mouse sit there the cursor would "vibrate" on screen, which probably contributed to it randomly shooting off in some unknown direction as I was trying to do some fine movements. Also, the square the cursor is actually pointing to may or may not be the square that is actually highlighted -- I tried moving the mouse/d-pad very slowly and was able to get to the far edge (or maybe even past the far edge) of the adjacent square and it still hadn't changed to the square I had been moving across.

Once your city gets over about 10k in population, the game grinds to a crawl. You have to wait for whatever option you want to choose to highlight, which gets to be close to a full second. Even at the fastest speed, a month takes about 15 seconds to go by (and that was at less than 50k pop), so if you need to wait a few years to build up funds for, say, a new power plant, you'll be waiting 10+ minutes. There are only 2 zoom levels, neither of which is far enough out to let you see most of your city, and with how slowly it scrolls across the land, you really can't get a good idea of what your entire city looks like. Every time I loaded up my city, it overrode my enabling disasters, so after a few times, I just left them disabled. I tried the scenarios, but the extremely slow scrolling made that a futile effort.

The actual articles in the newspapers have been removed, so clicking on a headline simply closes out the paper -- I always enjoyed reading those silly little articles. They did add a feature where you can drive around your city and view it from the inside of a car, but after trying it out a couple times, the overall blandness (as well as being unable to control the car) makes me believe very few people would want to continue choosing this.

Avoid this port at all costs. The PC version can't be more than a few dollars.
