This was my 2nd playthrough, since I'm slowly playing through all the FFs in order. This is based on the Final Fantasy Anthology (PS1) release.

I remembered absolutely nothing from my first playthrough (the only reason I know that I did play it is because my PS Memory Card says I did), and after playing it again, I can easily see why. The only thing this game could have going for it is the Job system. Everything else is standard, run of the mill NES/SNES Final Fantasy fare. I really dislike how they handle the job systems in Final Fantasy games. If you're playing the game normally (leveling up various jobs), only having one skill slot to fill from among the multitude of skills your characters have supposedly learned is just terrible. One thing that really started grating on me is if you've deviated from the "Optimum" equipment (just because it has the highest Defense rating (and it will ALWAYS have the highest), a headgear that constantly drains HP during battle is NOT "Optimum", I'm sorry to say) and simply change an Ability, not a Job, you will have to again change out your equipment -- this is extremely annoying if you have to change abilities to cast a single spell when needed.

I also really dislike the ATB system. Sure you can set it to Wait -- too bad that it doesn't wait after you choose Attack and are selecting which target to attack (it only waits when you choose Item or Magic (yes, the manual is very precise about this)). It also seems rather counter to the whole idea of the system if, after choosing an action, you can watch while all the enemies get in their attacks before your character actually carries out the command.
